Day 6 - POS

Day 6 Update
Current Weight: 138 lbs
Delta: - 2 lbs

Not huge but as long as the scale continues to go down, heck I don't care of the scale goes down as long as the measurements go down.

Most progress this week is probably due to essentially eliminating carbs.  Aside from yesterday's bittersweet celebration I have been eating almost exclusively protein.

Never realized how little I need carbs: eggs, chicken, and fish make for some pretty tasty meals.
I've also significantly increased my water intake and cut out soda.
I haven't had a Diet Coke in 5 days - WOAH!

Baby steps (& runs) will get me there!

Date Morning !?

My boyfriend and I had a date this morning.  Not a date in the formal sense of the word.

Mornings can be so hectic, especially Monday mornings.  Sleep-deprived hangover, shower, dog walk, breakfast, getting ready for work - not particularly in that order.  Often times it feels like Monday mornings are rushing past as the pending work week threatens mundane tasks, and seemingly unavoidable headaches.  As we each raced out the door with a goodbye kiss and promise to chat later we each hastily got into our cards.

Per my usual Monday morning, I headed directly for the Starbucks.  (This particular Starbucks has a drive-thru - BEST IDEA EVER!!!) As I order my Grande, Skinny, Soy Caramel Macchiato I glance in my rearview mirror to see none other than my boyfriend.  I got this brilliant idea to pay for his coffee.  I handed the polite cashier my Bux card and told him my scheme.  He stared at me wide-eyed as if I was some sort of heroic, good Samaritan for buying a stranger a coffee.  I quickly told him that the man in the car behind me was my boyfriend, & we were on a date.  I can't begin to explain the look he gave me next.  Somewhere between utter confusion, and heartfelt sympathy.

As I drove away, I grinned thinking that I might have helped start his day just a little bit better.

When the Mr. called to thank me, I simply said - "now it's like we had breakfast together."

What unique ways do you keep your relationship fresh?
How do you make the best out of a less than glamorous time (i.e. Monday mornings)?
Do you have a creative idea for date night/morning?

Weekend 1 - POS

Weekend 1 was a complete failure.

Current Weight: 140 lbs
Change: 0 lbs

I can't say I'm surprised.  I didn't do anything to make it any better this weekend.

Friday night running....errands.
Saturday baseball game...spectator.
Sunday birthday party...indulging.

I ate a lot!  Italian sausage, french fries, ribs, potato salad, beer, diet coke & the list goes on.
I guess I should be thankful that I didn't GAIN weight.

Back on track today.
It's grocery day so I'm going to fill the house with good-for-you food and squeeze at least one run in today.

With an upcoming wedding weekend with all of our favorite friends, I need to make sure I set myself up to succeed.

Day 1 - POS

Day 1 Update - Pursuit of Skinny (POS)

I need coffee & I need to go running.
Should I get my coffee before or after my run?
Whew this is harder than I thought.

Just weighed myself again for good measure.
Current Weight: 138.5 lbs
WOO - HOO down 1.5 lbs already.
This is a piece of cake.

I wish I hadn't mentioned cake, I love cake.

I'm going to take my measurements today.
Any way to measure results & provide a little extra motivation.
No - I will not be sharing my measurements with you.
Sheesh, some things are personal.

Boring, fitness post

I hope that title works & no one ACTUALLY reads this.

So you, no doubt, have seen my Dear John letter by now. I have approximately 100 of those I could write.

Farewell Fast Food, Peace Out Pizza, Buh-Bye Microbrew, Sayonara Soda, Au Revoir Pinot Noir - you get the point.

The problem with weight loss is I'm not "fat." As I've mentioned before, I've been blessed; however, this predicament allows me to talk about how unhealthy or unfit I am without having to publicly face any sort of ridicule or humiliation and therefore essentially take no action.

So as I write this post (Thursday, June 23, 2011) I hesitate to publish it. I am about to disclose something almost no woman does. My honest weight.

Maybe I'll just keep it in my secret archives, never to be posted for general public viewing-does that defeat the purpose?

Today pre-diet, post grease ridden pizza dinner
Weight: 140 lbs

That for the record I believe is the most I've ever weighed.

Goal weight: 125 lbs
Start date: Right NOW

If I lose 1 lb per week I should reach my goal weight by October 7.

Here goes nothing.

My Dear John Letter

Dear Love,

I can no longer continue this unhealthy relationship.  I know we've had some really wonderful times together.  You've comforted me, kept me warm, and provided a constant reminder of how I've grown; however, the time has come for us to part.

As I get older and we spend more time together, it will only become more difficult for us go our separate ways.  I think of all the family celebrations, decadent meals, late nights at the bar, and lazy weekend mornings.  I know I will miss them all but they no longer have a place in my life. (Ok, maybe an occassional drink or two just don't tell).

I know I can never replace you, but frankly love-handles, that's the idea.  I'm off now; my running shoes are waiting.

Formerly Yours,

G

handywoman > handyman

I am handier than my boyfriend.
Correction, I am less fearful of screwing something up, which in turn makes me (at least appear) handier than my boyfriend.
{pinterest}
I am a "do-it-yourselfer" AND I like instant gratification.

Here's how I tend to look at it...
I could (a) do it myself or (b) hire someone else to do it.
If I opt to DIY I could get more customized result in a (fairly) timely manner for a less expensive cost OR I might totally screw it up and have to hire someone to fix my mistake.
I would rather take the risk for originality and cost savings.

My last DIY project didn't include too much customization or originality but I certainly saved time & money.

During my home inspection, the inspector noted that my garbage disposal blades had seized.  I was convinced that he was wrong as I had never had any problems with the disposal before.

After several attempts to unlock the blades with a key/allen wrench I resigned to not having a garbage disposal at all.  Although I was no longer disposing of leftover food down the sink, the drain began to drain more and more slowly each day.

It became impossible to run the dishwasher which would overflow the sink and leave DISGUSTING deposits of food bits, soap scum, and who knows what else in my stainless steel sink.
Eventually, the drain was so slow I couldn't even hand wash dishes on the right side of the sink.
A little internet research, a couple of minutes of prodding at my current disposal, & off to Lowe's I went.
I found the same exact disposal for only $85 & began the replacement process.

MAKE SURE TO TURN OFF THE FUSE AT THE CIRCUIT BREAKER.
The key to being a Handy-woman requires preventing injury otherwise my ENTIRE theory on DIY is null and void because you're risking much more!

Since I was lucky enough to be replacing the old disposal with the same model the removal and replacement instructions are essentially the exact same in reverse.

Once you've disconnected all the plumbing the electrical wires feed in through the bottom of disposal.

Now that you've removed the old unit, hit the rewind button.
  1. Connect the electrical wires for the new unit:  If you've ever replaced a light fixture, this is essentially the same.  Again, make sure the power is off to the disposal, then match colors, attach grounding wire.
  2. Attach new disposal to sink top: Mine was as easy and screwing it in to the mounting bracket.
  3. Attach dishwasher drain tube
  4. Attach sink drain arm
  5. Supply Power & Test.
Like I said, super easy & instant gratification.  Finally, I could take care of this mess!

Are you a DIY queen?  Is it just home remodels or do you dabble in plumbing, electric, & "man's work" on occasion too?
